Assessing students using Cambridge style questions is crucial for fostering a supportive and effective learning environment. It helps us, teachers, tailor our instruction, provides students with necessary feedback, identifies learning gaps, and ensures that educational standards are met.

Vocabulary
- Control Experiment: a group within an investigation or study that receives the same treatment as the experimental groups with the exception of the variable being testes.
- Control Variables: variables that are not being tested but that must be kept the same in case they affect the experiment.
- Confounding Variable: A variable that could affect the independent or dependent variable and therefore the results of the experiment
- Systematic error: a consistent error which affects each measurement in the same way, normally caused by faulty measuring equipment or difficulties in reading that equipment
- Random error: an error in measurement which is caused by factors which vary from one measurement to another

Lesson

Set up each station around the classroom and provide students with the accompanying student response booklet. Students work individually or in pairs, rotating through the stations while completing calculations, collecting and analyzing data, interpreting graphs, solving scientific problems, and answering AICE-style questions. Allow 7-10 minutes per station and 2-3 minutes transition time.
Each station focuses on a different practical skill, allowing students to apply scientific knowledge in a variety of contexts while building confidence with the types of questions they will encounter on Paper 2. After students complete the rotations, use the included answer keys to review solutions, discuss common misconceptions, and reinforce exam techniques.
The stations require minimal preparation, keep students actively engaged, and provide meaningful practice with experimental design, data analysis, graphing, biodiversity calculations, population estimation, and scientific interpretation.
